When to outsource

So your first question is probably “but how do I know I’m ready to outsource?!” First of all, just know that it’s never too early to start, nor is it ever too late!! I think the best time to outsource is before you feel so overwhelmed and behind. When you look ahead and can see that you’re going to have a ton of sessions, I recommend starting to think about outsourcing.

The reason for this is that you want to hire someone BEFORE that crazy season hits. You’ll have to dedicate time looking for the right person for you, then you’ll interview, and then you’ll need to onboard. If you want to have a really positive experience, you need to allow for at least a month of training and catching your new partner up to speed!!

What to outsource

1. You may want to start with outsourcing your editing!!! Yep- that means relinquishing full control here and trusting that there are people out there who can do just as good of a job (or better job) than you!!!

I recommend doing this once you’ve fully found your personal style of editing, this way your editor has your style to mimic. This is probably the most freeing task to get off of your plate as a wedding photographer. Trust me when I say this- you do NOT need to be the one to edit your own photos (unless this is something you absolutely love and don’t want to outsource for that reason).

2. Hire a virtual assistant!!! There are so many incredible virtual assistants out there and it’s all about finding someone who you really click with and who specializes in what you’re looking for. If you’re wondering what you could specifically outsource to a VA, I recommend thinking through these questions:

-which tasks do I do that are repeatable each week and can be taught to someone else?

-what takes up the most time in my week working IN my business instead of ON my business?

-what do I not enjoy doing as much in my business?

Once you’ve thought through those you’ll likely have some ideas!! For example, my incredible VA helps with the following: publishing my blogs, creating all of my Pinterest pins and graphics, Instagram graphics, and will now be helping me with Instagram posts and reels!! PS- you can find my virtual assistant’s Instagram here

Final Thoughts

I hope this helped you start thinking through what you can outsource as a beginner photographer!!
