If you’re wondering how to elope in Yosemite, here are the top 3 things to think about before you start planning!! These tips can be applied to pretty much any elopement location so make sure to research for your specific dream destination too!!
This sounds obvious, but you may be surprised by certain areas or trails that are shut down during certain seasons!! For example, even in late spring, mountain destinations may not be accessible due to late snowfall or heavy rains!! For example, you don’t want to have your heart set on Taft point in Yosemite only to find out the road to getting there is closed about half of the year due to snowfall. The same goes for hot weather- you should also double check the highs in hot summer destinations! Think you love hot weather? Think about if you’ll love it as much at 120 degrees in your wedding outfits!
Even if it’s public land you likely need a permit! Do your research on permits, rules, & regulations!! You may need a permit to actually get married at the park, others require a permit even for bridals (i.e. you’re not officially getting married but are in wedding attire), and some are super strict about any type of photography. Read through these rules thoroughly and purchase the necessary permits as far in advance as possible.
Okay yes this is for eloping, but your elopement may actually include a very tiny group! Maybe your parents and sibling are coming! Make sure to double check your specific location rules on this! Some have very strict limits at 6 people or less, some include vendors in the headcount, while others may not. In this same vein, state parks and public beaches often have rules regarding the amount of chairs set out too.
If you do this research seasonal accessibility, elopement permits, and max capacity rules before picking a spot and setting a date, your day is going to be well on its way to being completely stress-free and easy! Click here for the most up to date information on how to elope in Yosemite!
