If you’re looking up specific steps on how to elope in Hawaii and start planning, this is for you!!!

First of all, congratulations!!! Eloping in Hawaii is the absolute BEST! I’m so excited for you guys and want to share some advice on how to get started!

1. Select the island and location!!

All of the islands are beautiful in their own way! Do some research to determine which island best fits you two and the adventure you want to have!

From there, jot down some specific locations you’d be interested in eloping at! Research beaches, hikes, waterfalls, mountains, anything you would love! If you’re super undecided or would like some assistance picking an exact location for the ceremony and following photos, you can always book your coordinator and/or photographer before step 3 so they can help you before you get a permit!

2. Pick a date

I highly recommend eloping on a weekday at sunrise! This is when you’ll have the best chance of enjoying your slice of paradise all to yourself!! The lighting will also be super soft and beautiful. Work with your photographer to determine the best time to meet for a true sunrise experience!!

I also recommend avoiding busy travel times like summer and Christmas if possible.

3. Obtain a permit if needed

Like many public lands, you’ll likely need a permit for the actual ceremony itself! Find more information here

4. Hire your vendors

One of the biggest things when figuring out how to elope in Hawaii is getting the right vendors. The beauty of an elopement is that you can make the day as simple, adventurous, or extravagant as you’d like!!! While not all of these vendors may be right for you, many of them likely will be! I recommend booking your vendors as soon as you’ve done the previous steps. Here’s how I would prioritize them:

Planner (if applicable)

Photographer

Videographer (if applicable)

Officiant

Rentals (like if you’re setting up a picnic, ceremony arches, etc.)

Florals

If you plan to book any excursions for your day, I recommend booking that after you’ve hired your photographer. They’ll be able to help you with the timeline and give you advice on when the activity would best fit into the day!
