If you’re looking for Yosemite engagement photos in Yosemite Valley, this is everything you need for your inspiration!!! I’m going to break down exactly how to get these gorgeous photos like this! Whether you’re the couple looking for photos or the photographer who is going to take them, this is for you!

1. When to take photos in Yosemite Valley

Yosemite Valley is gorgeous absolutely any time of year for engagement photos!! However, if you’re looking to take them between October and April, it’s probably pretty much your only option! The road to Taft Point and Glacier Point are closed off during the winter so Yosemite Valley will be your best bet!!

We took these photos in late November and were super lucky that Yosemite Falls was flowing!! It’s definitely not always the case at this time of year though, so if you really want water, your best bet will be late spring!

Lastly, if you want wide open fields pretty much all to yourself, plan to take your photos at sunrise on a weekday!! Because of course, Yosemite Valley is a valley, there won’t be a true “sunrise” experience, but the lighting will be soft and flattering!

2. Where to stop along Yosemite Valley

The most important thing to know is that the drive-through Yosemite Valley is a one-way loop taking you to all of the spots. Make sure you research the spots beforehand and stop in order!! Bonus if you have the map saved on your phone before because there can be really spotty service in the area.

Here are my favorite spots for a 2-hour engagement session (in order of stopping): Swinging Bridge, Cooks Meadow, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan Meadow, Valley View

3. How to get killer photos!!!

Just take a page out of Neggeen and Hung’s book!!! Dress in neutrals and just be ready to have a ton of fun!!! I love that they dressed in soft colors that complimented the colors of Yosemite but didn’t compete! It helps the photos feel so natural!!!

Most importantly, they were SO happy and go with the flow and it totally shows in the images!! Make sure you book a photographer who makes you feel super comfortable to be yourself and will help you to have the absolute best time!!
